“Welcome to Cabaret!” A Spoiler-Free Review

While recently discussing musicals with a coworker, I was recommended to watch Cabaret. After seeing the Donmar Warehouse 1993 Revival, I was absolutely enthralled! Cabaret is a musical that’s absolutely worth watching. A link to the full show will be provided below.

What’s Cabaret About?

Cabaret’s main storyline focuses on an American writer, Cliff, visiting Berlin, Germany. While his intention is to stay in Germany until his first novel is finished, he’s soon met with Sally Bowles from the Kit Kat Klub, who gives Cliff a tatse of the wild side and nightlife. Romantic and dramatic, this musical gives its audience an in depth view of hisotry during the Jazz age and Nazi rise to power.

Boo or Bravo?

Bravo! Cabaret is definitely worth adding to your watchlist. The storyline gives its audience a focused, in depth look into the time period in which it takes place. The charming subplot also ties well into the main story. There’s never too much jumping between, nor is there ever times that it can lose you with too much detail.

The songs are excellent and fun to listen to. The cast does a fantastic job with their roles. The only thing to consider when going into this musical is the sensitive topics in hisotry and mature themes! Overall, this musical is charming and a little bit suspenseful. While its time period may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I feel as though the historical value plays an important role in production.
