Caught Up; An Into Darkness novel is a dark romance adult fiction published in 2025. This book is also the second of a three part series. Sensitive topics and spoilers will be discussed.

Caught Up takes after Lights Out, making it a second adult fiction novel in the dark romance category. However, Caught Up stands strong in its plot based chemistry and world building. This made for a very exciting read!
Practice Made Perfect!
In the previous “RayTay Reads” blog post, I talked about the two halves that made Lights Out into a whole novel. The two half elements being the established relationship between the main characters, and the second half story driven narrative that is later thrown in to drive the book closer to a concrete storyline and ending. Caught Up executes its storytelling in a much more confident and organized manner.
From the start, Caught Up introduces its main characters and gives the reader more detail on the world around them. Building the environment and establishing deeper details made this sequel feel much more immersive. These details also helped put pieces together during and after the events that took place during Lights Out.
Delicious Drama
Have an insatiable desire for edge of your seat drama? Caught Up is the perfect choice. Lights Out started its second half plotline with family drama involving Ali’s family who had mafia ties. Caught Up takes that and runs with it, continuing to focus on the mob members of the family all while building the main relationship of the story. Junior, one of Ali’s cousins, begins to stray away from the nit and grit of doing business in the mafia. All the while, he works to rekindle what was told to be a messy relationship turned heartbreak in high school with the other main protagonist, Lauren.
Caught Up challenges the idea of exploring and understanding one’s self. This can be seen in the perspective of Lauren and her circle of roommates/best friends. Despite the societal disgust of her pornographic camera work, Lauren refuses to be taken down by any comments or change for anyone. This can also be seen in the way Junior stands up against his father’s demands to take over the family business, despite the threatening danger and possible consequences of denying what’s seen as best for Junior.
Read it or Weep?
Caught Up is an absolutely excellent read! The narrative is enticing and exciting, keeping the “edge of your seat” feeling from start to finish. This novel also does a good job of standing alone as its own story rather than just a sequel. Haven’t read Lights Out? No problem! (Almost) Reading Caught Up without reading Lights Out may reveal minor spoilers, but gives enough detail to establish Ali and Josh’s minor roles in the story.
