Who’s RayTayArt?
Good question. Allow me to introduce myself.
I’ve been drawing since I learned to hold crayons. From coloring books to figure drawing, and many other mediums in between, I always believed that I was destined to be a creator. I would even bug my parents for a pen so I could draw on napkins when we were out to eat! However, there’s much more to me than my art. I also write and compose music, as well as cook a lot too. I’m a big fan of bright colors, animated cartoons, and all things pop culture.
Why Art?
Before I decided to pursue art, I planned on being a musician. Much like learning to hold crayons and draw, singing was something that felt as natural as talking. I started writing songs and singing at elementary school level, as well as participate in choir, musicals, and multiple talent competitions. However, my perspective changed when I took choir in my freshman year of high school. Music theory is a little bit harder than it seems, so I filled up my electives with art classes instead.
During junior year, I had a wonderful art teacher who influenced me to pursue my art degree. In one of my classes with her, she showed me a children’s book and said to me “This reminded me of you. I could see you doing this sort of thing.” That was the moment that sparked something in me, and from then on, I knew what I wanted to do instead of music. That’s the moment that made me decide to pursue children’s book illustration.
