Lights Out; An Into Darkness novel is a dark romance adult fiction published in 2024. This book is also the first of a three part series. Sensitive topics and spoilers will be discussed.

A fellow peer recommended Lights Out in suggestion that it was a book for me. One visit to a book store later, and into darkness I went! Lights Out is defined as an erotic, adult fiction, dark romance novel. Though, it’s important to keep in mind that there’s a lot of humor thrown in, making the novel feel more like a romcom with dark romantic themes.
Lights Out can be described as having two main components; establishing the relationship between its main characters. then the second half plotline that is quickly established and ran with. Ali, an overworked, stressed nurse ends up tangled in the blurred lines between chivalry and crime when masked content creator “The Faceless Man” begins to stalk her. Chemistry builds, erotic interactions take place, and the cycle continues as such.
Plotline has entered the chat
What really kept me reading was the sudden plot establishment within the second half of the book. With Josh, (The Faceless Man) now being in a more closely established relationship with Ali, the story truly begins when a patient she’s treating tries to touch her. Bradley Bluhm is written as a typical rich kid with the mentality that women are nothing more than toys for someone like him to play with.
The hospital quarrel doesn’t go as planned for Bradley. He soon digs up information on Ali in an attempt to harm and even kill her. However, this is the moment a solid plot is established for the remainder of the book. Josh and Ali stop Bradley before he can seriously harm either one of them. Unfortunately, Bradley was bound wrong when being tied up, resulting in him suffocating to death. Enter the mafia!
Sounds like a drastic jump, right? It’s told that Ali has family ties to the mafia. This means that the remainder of Lights Out plunges into hiding the murder of Bradley Bluhm and further strengthening the relationship between Ali and Josh. Personally, I was really invested in this sudden plotline! The shift made it feel like an entirely different book temporarily. However, the change of pace from the first half’s repeated cycle felt like a good way to break things up.
Read it or weep?
If you’re looking for a soft start into the dark romance genre, give Lights Out a read! A soft start feels like the appropriate way to describe this title, given its humorous aspects and interactions between characters.
