Silly Talk – COD Black Ops 6

Growing up in the early 2000s, I’m very aware of all the golden age games and franchises that came to exist. Unfortunately, I missed out on a lot of those titles in their prime. Midnight releases, playing online, it was all a luxury that I didn’t quite participate in.

As a child, my parents never really wanted me playing video games. Part of the reasoning was because of gender norms. “You’re a girl, you shouldn’t want to play video games.” But the much bigger factor was the age old perspective of, “Video games are too violent and they’ll cause you to become violent.

Past versus Present

But with my birthday on the horizon, I was fortunate enough to receive a wonderful early birthday gift. I’m beyond grateful to my partner who pre-ordered me Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. So far, I love it! My partner and I have been enjoying the closed beta test. I’ve found myself admiring the mechanics, graphics, especially the variety in characters and their voice lines in game.

BO6 (so far) is a beautiful game that feels realistic and immersive to the war/gun game theme. As someone who’s a fan of arcade type shooters, BO6’s beta has been a delight to play. The incentives received for pre-order also feel much more worth their value, compared to previous titles, such as MW3. (Sorry, Zombie Ghost Skin, you fall just a little short this time) Considering that Treyarch and Raven were the original creators of the Black Ops games, it makes me feel beyond grateful that I’m able to enjoy a modern day title under their creation, compared to the recent lackluster releases from Activision.

And while I may not be able to make memories on the classic games like those who grew up with them, I’ve still managed to obtain the older titles and try them out, which I’m enjoying greatly. I would have loved to be playing COD zombies late at night during sleepovers with friends, or doing Easter Eggs within the maps during “the good ol’ days.” Despite me being just a little too late to the party, I’m still having fun. For any COD fans, be sure to order my MW2 (2022) inspired sticker, “Cuddle in the Cargo!”
