Who is Stephen?

Stephen is a reoccurring character in my original work.

When was Stephen created? Where did he come from?

Stephen was created in 2021 during a warmup session in one of my college courses. My professor had a really fun activity that our class would do each morning in order to help us wake up and prepare to work creatively. The game was called “Stick-tique.” A clever play on words, everyone was given set amounts of time to draw a prompt of our choosing. We would draw a thirty second sketch, a minute, and sometimes two-five minute sketches. When we were prompted to draw a monster, I created Stephen. My classmates took a liking to Stephen’s design, as did I. From there, I began to draw Stephen more often, developing his personality more.

In 2022, I made a piece featuring Stephen before he was named. I intended to name him “Scratch” due to his sharp teeth and long tentacle arms. After receiving feedback, a class mate suggested the name “Stephen.” Everyone approved, and the name Stephen stuck!

All About Stephen

Stephen is a small monster, about the same size as Silly. Much like Silly, Stephen cannot communicate vocally, aside from strange sounds and screeches. He also has the mentality of a five year old, making him very playful and interested in learning about things around him. Due to his mentality, Stephen and Silly are playmates and best friends. When Stephen becomes enraged or provoked, he can grow up to seven feet tall, sprouting more tentacles and becoming very strong.
