Red
Red is my main self insert character. She’s often used as a placeholder character in different universes from franchises and titles I’m a fan of. Red has also taken on different forms and appearances depending on where she’s being inserted. I also use Red often as a practice model for me to improve my anatomy skills.
Getting to know Red
If you know RayTayArt, then you know Red! As mentioned previously, Red is my main self inseet character, meaning her appearance, behavior, mannerisms, and style are basically a reflection of me as a person.
“Hiya! I’m Red!”
Consider Red the artist embodiment of RayTayArt. Though many other ocs of mine take on specific counterparts and/or traits of my personality, Red is the entire representation of me as a whole! Having a human oc really helps me break away from animals and cartoon stylization, allowing me to try and push myself that much closer to drawing proper, realistic anatomy.
Inspriation and Headcanons
The name “Red” didn’t just come from the color. “Red” was a name I picked for myself due to the fact that I often fluster and blush easily.
Red’s first official appearance was all the way back in 2020 as an Invader Zim self insert character. This is also where Silly’s first design came from. During the quarantine, I fell in love with the series, “Invader Zim.” Hence the creation of Red!
The Many Faces of Red
Due to Red being a self insert oc, there really isn’t just “one Red.” Red has taken on mulitple appearances and forms, meaning you’ll see her in all sorts of situations and paired with different characters depending on the universe!
2020 Red
Here we have 2020 Red in the Zim universe. This version of Red was intended to be Dib’s best friend. Since Dib was the outcast in school who believed in the absurdities of the paranormal and macabre, I made Red as someone who could bounce ideas around with him, conspiring about how they both believe in such things. Red, much like Dib, could also see that Zim was in fact, an alien.
The next version is also a 2020 Red, but this time in the form of a pony! This Red, previously known as “Red Sun,” was intended to be used as my Tiwtch avatar. After abandoning the twitch streamer route, I kept Red Sun, but removed the sun mark around her eye and renamed her to just “Red.”
2022 Red
2022 Red was the first official version of Red as a normal, non-self insert human caricature. This is the version of Red drawn most commonly for anatomy practice.
Much like 2020 Red, there are also mulitple versions of 2022 Red. This Red is a hybrid mix of the human and pony form. Her first appearance was in a Youtube thumbnail for Dead By Daylight. From there, Red was seen in a few more thumbnails and the occasional doodle or small comic excerpt.
2024 Red (a.k.a “Redward”)
Dr. Redward Richtofen, often nicknamed “Red,” is the Red that exists as a variation of Edward Richtofen from Call of Duty Black Ops. This version of Red has similar sadistic and psychotic tendencies to Edward himself, while also being very bright and cheerful. Dangerous and manipulative, this charming and intelligent scientist loves nothing more than a laugh, even if it means doing so at the expense of others. Unlike Richtofen who is canonically known as “The Butcher,” Redward is known as “The Laughing Doctor.” “I’m gonna make you laugh until your sides hurt. And trust me, it’s gonna hurt.” -The Laughing Doctor.
